Project Timeline
The hydro layer of ArcGIS data for Delaware County showed 925 ponds in the area. I have chosen 5 action sites for monitoring water quality, birds, and plants at retention ponds. These action sites are all on or near the Ohio Wesleyan campus. The sites chosen are Meijer Marsh, Meek Pond, and ponds at Blue Limestone Park, Smith Park, and the new YMCA.
Water Quality Monitoring
- continue to research different monitors to find the most appropriate one
- decide if real-time is worth the money
- compile excel of already existing data using these sites http://www.epa.ohio.gov/dsw/document_index/psdindx.aspx, http://www.epa.state.oh.us/dsw/tmdl/OlentangyRiverTMDL.aspx, http://www.epa.state.oh.us/dsw/tmdl/monitoring_UpperSciotoRiver.aspx - start April 3, finish April 9
- contact Waste water Treatment or Delaware Soil and Water District if need more info. – April9/10
Birds:
- read up more on the acoustic monitoring system here…http://www.wildlifeacoustics.com/products/acoustic-monitoring
- work this into grant
- I don’t think this is real-time, but it can be analyzed by students in the class and is much cheaper
- compile past bird data from Dr. Burtt into a spreadsheet – start April 9, finish April 16
Plants:
- compile data from Dr. Johnson into spreadsheet – start April 16, finish April 23
- perhaps work this sensor into the grant…will help show relation between plants present and soil and light conditions…http://venturebeat.com/2008/10/27/plantsense-launches-easybloom-plant-monitoring-sensors/
Data collection and compilation – April 3 – April 23
Grant section Written – April 24
Create map of action sites and put data into map layer attribute table of action sites and water sites – April 24 – April 30
Project Report – May 2 (includes written report, map, spreadsheets, and pictures)
Project…more on already existing water data
Use these websites to gather information and create a excel spreadsheet of the data

Project – Water Quality: Existing Data
- Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District…do they have any data…http://www.delawareswcd.org/
- Contact these people…use own computer, email on here being weird
- http://www.epa.ohio.gov/dsw/document_index/psdindx.aspx
- some past years watershed water quality
- only a few actually for Delaware county, and sporadic in time and are in different areas…useful?
- 2005 and 2009 study of Olentangy…may be useful, add data in future years too

- Delaware’s Annual Water Quality Report 2011 http://www.delawareohio.net/UserUploads/UserDocuments/CCR%20Web%20Version%202011.PDF —gives contents and property of water…perhaps find other past reports and use this in a data attribute table somehow?
- some more existing data http://www.olentangywatershed.org/newsletter/NL-spring2011.pdf—tributary map and monitoring for lower olentangy in Delaware County
- Include map layer of drainage ditches and/or treatment plant locations (see below)
